A Club for Macro Photographers

Our Submission Guidelines

Journal Entry: Mon Nov 20, 2006, 4:16 AM
Submission Guidelines

We don't accept direct submissions, so if you want to get your macro photography into the club gallery you will have to take part in one of the competitions. These are voted on by the other members and the top three entries go into our gallery. Each contest has it's own journal explaining everything you need to know to take part, though we list them here also as a reference.

Submitting An Entry

:bulletgreen: It is important to know that if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

:bulletgreen: Once you are ready to enter a contest, submit your entry to your gallery (or scraps). Be sure that it follows the theme of the contest and that it does not violate the rules of deviantART.

:bulletgreen: Once uploaded to your gallery, send us a note so we know where your entry is. When doing so, the subject line of your note should read: Submit ContestName. The exact details for each contest are made clear on their respective journals.

:bulletgreen: Soon after, you will recieve a note from the club to confirm your entry has been received. This will also inform you of when the first round of voting will commence.

General Contest Rules (Entry)

These rules generally apply when entering any contest, though specifics may be added in the contest journal so do be sure to check.

:bulletgreen: Entires should follow the contest theme.

:bulletgreen: Entries must be a new photo submitted on or after a specified date (given in the contest journal).

:bulletgreen: Entries need to be true macro photographs. These are photographs taken with a dedicated macro lens; a reversed zoom lens; macro extenders; a zoom lens with close up filters attached. Where a digital compact camera is used in 'macro' mode, the subject should be no more than 12" (30cm) from the lens.

:bulletgreen: Only minor edits are permitted. These include hue, saturation, color adjustments, minor touchups, cropping, adding borders and text. If your photograph appears to be overly manipulated it will be disqualified. Collages of images will not be accepted.

:bulletgreen: Entries must comply with deviantART's policies.

:bulletgreen: Entries are limited to one (1) per member. If you're not a member, become one. Entries from non-members are ineligible for a prize.

:bulletgreen: Entries are final. Once submitted you may not resubmit your entry.

General Contest Rules (Voting)

These rules apply when voting on any contest.

:bulletgreen: Vote with a note. Use the subject line specified in the contest journal. The subject line takes the form "VOTE <CONTEST NAME> <ENTRY NUMBER>". This will often be printed under the entry you wish to vote for. Simply copy/paste this into the subject line of your note. Not following this guidance will cause delays in your vote being counted.

:bulletgreen: Only one (1) vote per member. If you're not a member, become one. Voting multiple times for the same entry; or voting for multiple entries will void all your votes.

:bulletgreen: You may not vote for your own entry.

General Contest Rules (Self-promotion)

If you have an entry in a contest and wish to promote the fact to watchers of your gallery you may do so, however, how you do so is limited in the following ways:

You're welcome to...

(1) State in the description of your contest entry that it is an entry for for a *macrophoto contest and provide a link to the contest journal.

"This is my entry for macrophoto's flower contest. Find out more here [link]"

(2) State in your journal that you are taking part in a *macrophoto contest and provide a link to the contest journal.

"I've entered [deviation] into macrophoto's flower contest. Find out more here [link]"

You're discouraged from...

(3) Directly asking for people to vote for your entry in the description of your contest entry.

"This is my entry for macrophoto's flower contest. Please vote for me! Find out more here [link]"

(4) Directly asking for people to vote for your entry in your journal.

"I've entered [deviation] into macrophoto's flower contest. Please vote for me! Find out more here [link]"

You may not...

(5) Directly ask for people to vote for your entry and provide instructions on how to do so in the description of your contest entry.

"This is my entry for macrophoto's flower contest. Please vote for me! Just send a note to macrophoto with the subject "vote flower #xx". Find out more here [link]"

(6) Directly ask for people to vote for your entry and provide instructions on how to do so in your journal.

"I've entered [deviation] into macrophoto's flower contest. Please vote for me! Just send a note to macrophoto with the subject "vote flower #xx". Find out more here [link]"

Failing to follow this guidance -- violating parts (5) and (6) above -- will result in your entry being disqualified. All entries will be checked throughout the duration of contest voting. In a typical contest this will mean being checked once during round one voting and once during round two voting.

I understand that running a club is hard work, but this is very disapointing to see happen. I'm going to miss all the general gallery submissions.

Now you mention it... no. Just that's the way it was and also how many clubs operate. I'll reword this. Thank you.

By "new" Does that mean Never submitted/ unveiled before, or taken recently?
New as of a date specified in the contest journal - so look to the journal for the contest you wish to enter for a date as to what counts as new ;)

just as a point of conversation, some people (myself included) prefer their submissions to various clubs and contests be "dedicated" - that is, reserved for use in that club or contest only. In situations like that, I have submitted finished work to scraps simply so it wouldn't show up in my gallery...not as a statement about my opinion of the work I produced.
